Fiona Malone | Kay Armstrong | Liz Lea Solo Series #2 was the second program of solo dance performances, recently Produced by Onextra in association with Performance Space.

Fiona Malone in Reticence
This new solo work, created and performed by Fiona Malone, explores a
darker space...the state of being unwittingly silenced...a forced state
of refraine. Kay Armstrong in a.k.a
Two years of Flamenco, one series of Australian Idol and a stand-up
who's trying to give-up...a.k.a..three new short works by Kay
Armstrong that promise to deliver some good old-fashioned fun. Liz Lea in DhIVA
A work of high energy and wild juxtaposition created by Canada's Roger
Sinha for explosive dancer Liz Lea. A comic and wildly theatrical work
that explores the harmony and dissonance created when East and West
collide. Kay, Liz and Fiona have extensive experience as performers and choreographers in Sydney and across Europe. Kay Armstrong is one of Onextra’s affiliated artists. Her works are
smart, stylised and often irreverent. As well as performing as a
dancer, actor and choreographer, Kay has been commended for her short
story writing. She also recently returned from Europe after being
awarded the Robert Helpmann Travelling Scholarship. In a.k.a we see Kay
at her most amusing – with short pieces or ‘interventions’ dispersed
throughout the evening that riff on the stand up format and comment on
life, love and art making.
Liz Lea shares her time between London and Sydney, also touring
extensively across Europe throughout the year. She studied dance at the
London Contemporary Dance School and Classical Indian dance in London
and India. Although Liz regularly choreographs and performs her own
work, DhiVA was made for her by Roger Sinha, director of Canada’s Sinha
Danse. Roger, like Liz, is fascinated with the juxtaposition of this
traditional forms of Indian classical dance with contemporary dance and
martial arts, integrating them to create a unique movement language.
Fiona Malone has returned to Sydney after years overseas working
with Zurich’s CH-Tanztheater and Belgium’s multimedia, dance/technology
company Charleroi Danses and then in Adelaide with Garry Stewart’s
Australian Dance Theatre. Fiona’s experience and fascination with dance
and interactive technology has fuelled much of her choreographic
exploration to date. In Solo Series #2, Sydney audiences will be
re-introduced to Fiona as choreographer and performer in her first solo
work with Onextra Reticence.
Look forward to seeing you at Solo Series #2 |
